How to Declare the English Major

To declare your major, take the following steps:

1. Secure the College's form for declaring the major, available in Bryan 236 or Monroe Hall. Complete the top half of the form.

2. Contact the Director of Undergraduate Studies, Mrinalini Chakravorty, by visiting her office hours or e-mailing her, to request a faculty advisor for the major. You may ask to have a specific faculty member assigned to you, request an advisor with a particular field of expertise, or simply let the DUS choose an advisor for you.

3. Attend the office hours of your faculty advisor (available here). Bring your form, and talk with him or her about your proposed course of study. Your advisor will help you complete the bottom half of the College declaration form and will sign both forms.

PLEASE NOTE: If you have any difficulty connecting with your faculty advisor, Professor Chakravorty will be glad to help you complete your major declaration forms during her regular office hours in Bryan 416.

4. Deliver the white (top) sheet of the signed College declaration form to the front desk in Monroe Hall. The signed yellow (middle) sheet will be kept on file by the English Undergraduate Administrator. Keep the pink (bottom) sheet of the College form for your own reference.
